General information

Modes of study
The programme of study may be taken either as a full-time
degree over two years ( Master of Technology), or as a
part-time degree over two years (Master of Science).

As a full-time MTech student, the taught part of the course is
delivered across two terms (Autumn and Spring).
Dissertation work will begin the Autumn term of your second
year and is submitted at the end of your programme. As a
part-time MSc student, the taught part of your course is
delivered across four terms (Autumn and Spring of each year)
and your dissertation work will begin the Spring term of your
second year and is submitted in September the same year.

All of the eight taught modules are delivered in Oslo by
lecturers from Brunel University and NITH. Each module is a
three-weeks block, consisting of six full days of teaching in
week one and two. Full-time students take four consecutive
modules per term, while part-time students take two modules
per term, usually with three weeks between the two modules.
Students on MTech programmes who have passed the taught
part of the programme may apply to study at Brunel University
during the dissertation phase.

Teaching Methods
A variety of teaching methods are used on the programmes,
which include lectures, seminars, structured discussions
and self-directed study guided by us. You will gain practical
experience in workshops/laboratory sessions and through
the use of case-study material and scenarios centred on real
world problems.

Research Relevance
The passion for wanting to pursue doctoral-level research
and development is always apparent in some students. As
well as preparing you for employment, our Masters programmes
are also geared towards preparing you to undertake
a PhD in an applicable area. Consequently, you will pick
up a range of research skills throughout the course. These
skills are brought together in a dissertation, which may form
the basis of a research proposal for a PhD, should you wish
to embark upon this route.

Credits
MTech 120 ECTS study points.
MSc 90 ECTS study points.

Awards
A Masters degree issued by Brunel University is awarded
if you reach the necessary standard on the taught part
of the course and submit a dissertation to the required
standard. If you do not achieve the standard required you
may be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate
Certificate if eligible.

Entry Requirements

To apply for the course you should normally have a good
Honour´s degree (or foreign equivalent qualification) and
be motivated to develop a reflective understanding of the
theory and practice of this complex and exciting subject
area. A computing-related background may be advantageous
to your application, but is not a strict requirement.
If you have alternative qualifications and/or substantial
industrial experience (that is relevant to the subject area)
you may be eligible to study on the course. In this case, we
will interview you and may ask that you do some preparatory
work for the course.
